A Safe Place
A Safe Place is a local non-profit that supports survivors and those vulnerable to sex trafficking and exploitation through empowerment opportunities, relationship building and fostering community change.
A toll-free, anonymous response line has been established for victimized individuals, tipsters, and general information inquiries. A Safe Place is committed to connecting with sexually exploited girls and women by conducting online and business outreach and making the response line number readily accessible in high risk locations.
Our Outreach Center is on North 8th St. in a beautiful historic home where survivors can attend programs on Tuesday and Thursday. Programs including therapies and life skills classes are available to any survivor identified by A Safe Place, partner organizations, law enforcement or for those who contact our response line. Complete case management is provided in a safe and trauma responsive environment, where women are able to engage with others in the program and have one on one time with our staff and volunteers.
We provide a trauma focused program which includes trauma therapy, substance use counseling, DBT group therapy, life skills classes, employment assistance, self-defense, etc. We meet people where they are at in their life and offer a safe environment for them to have a meal, wash their clothes, take a hot shower and participate in activities. They are also given an emergency bag to take with them.
Hotel/motel Outreach is key to local survivor identification. A Safe Place provides specialized training to hotel/motel staff and displays A Safe Place's contact information in rooms and other highly visible locations for victims. We also conduct Business Outreach to spread awareness about A Safe Place and distribute our hotline information. A Safe Place also provides training on request to churches, law enforcement, EMS, social workers, nurses and other professionals who may encounter a trafficking survivor or want to learn identifiers so they can offer help.
Our Founder/CEO and her husband formed the original organization, The Center of Redemption, to help minor trafficking victims who were pregnant. Today, A Safe Place, works with adult women who are survivors of sex trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation to connect them with services in the community and to educate the community on sex trafficking. While our residential program will be for adult women, our staff will work with local, regional and nationwide resources to find housing for minors and male survivors.
